Ever thought of spending $17,500 for a video game tournaments? How about a game that is only 6 minutes and 21 seconds long? Last week, game enthusiast J.J. Hendricks dished out a whopping $17,500 for a rare NES Nintendo World Championships Gold cartridge. The video game tournaments was released in 1990 for Nintendo Powerfest Competition. It gave competitors 6 minutes and 20 seconds to collect 50 coins in 'Super Mario Bros,' finish a race on 'Rad Racer,' then stack Tetris blocks for the remainder of the time. Players must race against time to rack up as high score as possible. Sounds crazy right? Hendricks had to actually negotiate for the price drop from the original asking price of $25,000. The seller went back and forth on his word for about a month before finally letting go of the Gold cartridge. I guess $17,500 isn't as convincing as we thought. There are actually only 26 Gold cartridges in the world. So the rarity and value of this game is apparent, but $17,500 worth? Who knows? Well, J.J. Hendricks does.
